The process involves preparing a mould from sand and heating the aluminium until it liquifies. The molten aluminium is then poured into the mould and, on cooling, the cast aluminium piece is removed. Sand-cast aluminium has low dimensional accuracy which results in a rough surface finish, with irregular organic patination often occurring. The piece is then treated with an antique brass finish.
